SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Left-handed reliever Chris Rusin, counted on to be a key piece of the Rockies’ bullpen, is dealing with back pain that’s limiting his participation in Cactus League games.
Rusin, who has not pitched in a game since March 1, planned to throw a side session Wednesday. Manager Bud Black said it’s possible Rusin will be ready when the regular season opens, but there are no guarantees that will happen.
When asked if Rusin could be stretched out enough to pitch multiple innings, a role he’s filled in the past, Black said, “It’s not ideal.
