Even though all four of the Colorado Rockies’ full season affiliates were in action on Thursday, there were a relatively small number of notable performances from their top prospects, as the players within the top 15 PuRPs who were in action combined to go just 2-for-20. Both of the hits came from Lancaster JetHawks third baseman Colton Welker, who continued his strong start to the year.
After a pair of hits that included a double, the no. 5 PuRP is hitting a solid .324/.418/.520 on the year and is also riding an 11-game hitting streak. Just 20 years old, Welker has already risen to MLB Pipeline’s number eight prospect at third base and, as he continues to hit for the third consecutive season, he’s proving himself worthy of the prospect hype starting to surround him.
