The promise of Kyle Parker has come to an end, at least in a Rockies uniform.
A major-league source confirmed Wednesday that the club will designate the outfielder for assignment, clearing room on the 40-man roster for new outfielder Gerardo Parra, who officially signed a three-year, $27.5 million deal with Colorado on Tuesday.
MLB.com first reported the move late Tuesday night.
Parker, 26, the Rockies' top pick in the 2010 draft, never fully developed as a big-league hitter and there is no longer room for him in Colorado's crowded outfield.
The Rockies have not officially announced the move but are expected to later on Wednesday.
