SAN DIEGO — Petco Park shed its reputation as a pitcher's park.
Last year, the ballpark ranked last in the major leagues in home runs and next to last in runs scored. This year, it jumped to 10th in homers and 14th in runs scored.
"The first series of the year, you could tell the ball was playing different here," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said before the first of four games with the San Diego Padres this week. "It was leaving the ballpark like I hadn't seen before. It's been one of the tougher hitter's parks. It's playing a little different.
