Why does Jon Gray have to make everything so darn hard? And nothing is harder than watching him pitch. It requires sliding a hand over your face to peek through fingers, full of trepidation for the next mess made by the Rockies’ alleged ace.

Gray’s problem? Gray matter. Colorado has an ace who’s a head case.

When Gray takes the mound, he is either scary good or a scary movie.

He was frighteningly bad Wednesday in a 7-4 loss to San Francisco.

“Absolutely horrible,” Gray said. “Bad mind-set.”
