Justin Morneau placed on 60-day disabled list by Colorado Rockies

Justin Morneau, who's been out of the Rockies lineup since May 16 because of a concussion and a neck injury, was put on the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday. The move carved out a Rockies roster spot for a new pitcher.

The Rockies then claimed minor-league right-handed pitcher Gonzalez Germen off waivers from the Chicago Cubs. In six games for the Cubs this season, Germen allowed five earned runs in six innings.

Germen was immediately optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. With the minor-league Iowa Cubs, Germen was 5-1 with a 3.78 ERA this season over 33 1/3 innings.
