Justin Morneau walked back into the Rockies clubhouse Thursday with a long way still to go. The veteran first baseman is still recovering from a concussion and neck injury, but he is showing progress.
Morneau suffered whiplash diving for a ball May 13 in Anaheim against the Angels. When concussion symptoms continued to affect him, Morneau was put on the disabled list May 29.
He visited the Colorado clubhouse only sparingly since then. With a history of concussions — it almost knocked him out of baseball in 2010-11 — the Rockies and Morneau have acted cautiously, choosing rest as his route to recovery.
