Jorge De La Rosa, Rockies’ 14-hit attack sink Pirates

With his split-finger changeup diving on command and his poise firmly in place, Jorge De La Rosa rode to the Rockies’ rescue Thursday afternoon.

True, the veteran left-hander was backed by Colorado’s 14-hit attack in an 11-5 victory over Pittsburgh, but on a day when Coors Field was playing like a big, green pinball machine, De La Rosa restored order. The former staff ace came out of the bullpen in the fourth inning for struggling starter Chad Bettis and pitched four scoreless innings, the longest relief stint of his career.

De La Rosa, moved to the bullpen as a long reliever after getting hammered at Boston on May 24, was superb.
