With the suddenness and ferocity of a Colorado thunderstorm, Jon Gray’s sunny Sunday got wiped out by a three-run homer by Arizona center fielder Socrates Brito.
The home run set the wheels in motion for the Diamondbacks’ 8-5 victory and enabled the D-Backs to clinch the three-game series at Coors Field.
The Rockies’ offense, as has been the case all season, did not go away quietly. Trailing 8-3 to enter the ninth, Colorado scored two runs on a leadoff, pinch-hit double by Cristhian Adames and an RBI, pitch-hit single by Nick Hundley.
Subsequent singles by Tom Murphy and Raimel Tapia loaded the bases, and when reliever Daniel Hudson uncorked a wild pitch, Hundley scored to cut to the lead to 8-5.
