Jon Gray managed to avoid becoming the answer to a trivia question Sunday.
The Rockies’ rookie right-hander didn’t yield Ichiro Suzuki’s 3,000th hit at Coors Field. Gray retired Ichiro twice before the 42-year-old belted his historic triple off the right-field wall at Coors Field in the seventh inning on a pitch from Chris Rusin.
Against the rest of the Miami Marlins’ lineup, however, Gray struggled.
The burgeoning ace of the Rockies’ staff looked like anything but in the finale of a three-game series, tagged for eight runs without leaving the fourth inning in a 10-7 loss.
