John Axford leaves Rockies again for family matters; Colorado goes with closer committee

OAKLAND, Calif. — A slurry of pitching moves Tuesday took another closer from the Rockies' bullpen, after Colorado moved right-hander John Axford to the family medical emergency list.

The Rockies also moved long-reliever Christian Bergman to the 15-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation.

To fill out the relief corps, Colorado called up lefty innings-eater Yohan Flande and hard-throwing right-hander Justin Miller.

Axford was moved to the 7-day family medical emergency list for the second time this season. Axford also took a personal leave in April to help care for his then 2-year-old son, who was recovering from a rattlesnake bite during spring training.
