SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Rockies manager Bud Black likes to say that every day is a test. For right-hander Jeff Hoffman and his new delivery, the first of many spring training exams arrives Saturday when he’s scheduled to start in the Cactus League opener vs. Arizona.
It will be a short first outing, of course, but it will give Hoffman a sense of how he’s progressing with his shortened delivery, something he’s been working hard at during bullpen sessions.
“It’s taken some time to adjust because the longer (delivery) was how I’ve always thrown,” he said. “But it’s really starting to feel natural, like second nature to me.
