In addition to the array of young, promising players on their 25-man roster, the Rockies’ Triple-A affiliate is swelling with big-league bubble talent in the infield, outfield and on the mound.
The one position noticeably lacking in intense competition for call-ups in the not-too-distant future? Catcher, where 24-year-old Dom Nunez is the franchise’s best LoDo-ready prospect behind the dish.
Nunez will share starts in Albuquerque with 35-year-old veteran Drew Butera (whom Colorado signed to a minor-league contract March 25). Nunez spent the past two seasons in Double-A Hartford, where he batted .222 with nine homers and 42 RBIs for the Yard Goats in 2018.
