SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — From the third deck at Coors Field, Charlie Blackmon can look like a pin dot, dwarfed by his surroundings. He is a large center fielder, standing 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, but within the nearly 3 acres of fair territory, Blackmon fades into the greenbelt.
He is even more lost in the numbers. Blackmon was an all-star and MVP candidate in the National League last year, his best season since breaking through to the majors in 2011 and one of the best in recent memory by a center fielder not named Mike Trout.
