The Grand Junction Rockies are no more.
The Pioneer League team on the western slope will now be known as the Grand Junction Jackalopes following a rebrand Friday.
For those not up to date on mythical creatures, a jackalope is an animal from North American folklore that is a jackrabbit with antelope horns. It remains a popular symbol of the American West.
Grand Junction, which was the Colorado Rockies’ rookie league affiliate from 2012-19, has been an independent team for the past couple seasons. This year, the franchise won its second Pioneer League title in its fifth overall appearance in the championship series.
