Tim Ray goes into every baseball season as general manager of the Grand Junction Rockies thinking he’ll be watching some future major leaguers playing in Suplizio Field.
When Grand Junction became the rookie-league stop in 2012 in the Rockies’ farm system, Ray wondered who it would be and how long it would take for an alumnus of the Grand Junction Rockies to play for the major-league Rockies.
When reliever Carlos Estevez was called up earlier this season, Ray had four Grand Junction graduates in the majors.
“They’ve all been pitchers: Eddie Butler, Scott Oberg Jon Gray and Estevez,” Ray said.
