GM Jeff Bridich says Rockies can do “very good things” despite injuries, young starters

Milwaukee — Carlos Gonzalez blasted pitch after pitch into the second deck Sunday afternoon as the Rockies went through a relaxed workout at Miller Park.

“Yeah, baby!” Gonzalez shouted as a baseball ricocheted off the empty seats in right field.

Nolan Arenado laughed like a kid as he fielded groundballs at third base, and first-year Rockies manager Bud Black roamed the infield, wearing a first baseman’s glove and chatting up his players.

General manager Jeff Bridich, the Rockies’ chief architect, took it all in.

On the eve of the season-opening game against the Brewers, Bridich reaffirmed his belief that the Rockies can be contenders this season, despite a slew of key injuries suffered during spring training and despite opening with an inexperienced starting rotation.
