German Marquez’s struggles continue as Giants blast him in first inning

When your opening-day starter lasts just two-thirds of an inning and gives up eight runs on six hits with two walks in a 12-4 bludgeoning, you know things are bad.

Such is the current condition of the Rockies, and of right-hander German Marquez, who got bombed in the first inning of the first game of a doubleheader at Coors Field Tuesday. Before the inning was over, the Giants led the Rockies 10-0.

After the game, manager Bud Black went through each of the San Francisco Giants’ at-bats against Marquez, pointing out some fortunate Giants singles and some questionable defense by the Rockies.
