His official title is bullpen catcher, but to the Rockies, Aaron Munoz is much more than that.
Reliever Chris Rusin describes him as a “utility man” who works with pitchers and hitters alike, stringing up gloves on the side. And manager Bud Black pegs him as “another sounding board for me and the coaches”, noting the wide breadth of behind-the-scenes responsibility Munoz takes on.
“The number of things he does on a daily basis to help us win is huge,” Black said. “His relationship with a few of the hitters in the cage is critical — throwing batting practice and helping with their preparation off the tee, with flips, with short toss.
