As an 18-year-old senior, Tim Melville created buzz when he was on the mound.
There would be dozens of scouts in the stands when the right-hander pitched for Holt High School in St. Louis. At the time, Melville could already gas his fastball up to 95 mph.
Eleven years later, Melville is a journeyman pitcher, having overcome Tommy John surgery and having washed out with six major league organizations. That was before the Rockies sent him a lifeline after a rash of injuries to their starting rotation. Now more a junkballer than flame thrower, Melville is surviving as a tactician.
