LAS VEGAS — Troy Tulowitzki, who helped lead the Rockies to their only World Series as a rookie in 2007, and for a time was considered the best shortstop in baseball, was released by the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
“Through many conversations with Troy and his representative Paul Cohen, and with consideration to what is in the best interest of both sides, we made the decision to release Troy today,” Toronto GM Ross Atkins said in a statement.
“Tulo,” as he became known when he was a five-time all-star with the Rockies, is still owed $38 million over the next three seasons (including a buyout of a 2021 option).
