Connor Joe has been freed from crippling second-guessing that can come after a bad game. He’s set self-doubt aside, playing with an approach as close to a carefree Little Leaguer as possible.
Joe, already a Coors Field fan favorite with his effervescent smile and flowing mullet, has a battle with cancer to thank for underscoring his endearingly optimistic approach to the game.
The Rockies’ first baseman/left fielder was diagnosed with testicular cancer following his spring physical with the Dodgers last year, and spent 2020 battling the disease.
“That really changed my mentality, because going through that and having that scare puts everything into perspective,” Joe said.
