Drew Stubbs demoted to Triple-A; Rockies promote Brandon Barnes

The Rockies sent veteran outfielder Drew Stubbs to the minor leagues on Wednesday, optioning him to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Colorado called up Brandon Barnes from the Isotopes as his replacement, according to the team.

Stubbs, 30, has struggled all season. He is hitting just .118 with two home runs and five runs batted in through 24 games and has struck out 30 times in 51 at-bats. Stubbs was past the five-year service time limit, so he had to approve his being optioned to the minor leagues.

With Albuquerque, Barnes is hitting .205 with five homers, 12 RBIs and seven stolen bases.
