Dodgers, Van Slyke avoid arbitration with 1-year deal

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Dodgers and outfielder-first baseman Scott Van Slyke have agreed to a one-year deal for $1,225,000, avoiding arbitration.

He hit .239 with six home runs and 30 RBIs last season, when he missed three games in September with right hand and wrist inflammation and was left off the postseason roster.

Van Slyke, who bats right, has mostly been used for matchups against left-handed pitchers. His deal was announced Thursday.

On Wednesday, Los Angeles agreed to a $1,065,000, one-year deal with pitcher Chris Hatcher.

The remaining Dodgers who have filed for arbitration are closer Kenley Jansen, catcher Yasmani Grandal, infielder Justin Turner and pitcher Luis Avilan.
