After only previously having four games in which the offense scored three or more runs, the Rockies offense was able to string together some runs early in the game against the Dodgers. After an early 6-0 deficit that cost Chad Bettis his start after 2 2⁄3 innings, Charlie Blackmon, Trevor Story, and Nolan Arenado strung together a series of hits in the third inning to score two runs. Ian Desmond then knocked Arenado home to cut the deficit in half, due in part to the Dodgers not knowing how many outs were in the inning and not turning the double play.
