DJ LeMahieu hits inside out, as they say. It’s batter speak, a baseball knickknack for insiders. And it’s code for contact. LeMahieu, as the late, great Tony Gwynn was, is a contact hitter.
But with every pulled double and long triple this season, LeMahieu seems to morphing into a slugger. The Rockies’ second baseman is well on his way to doubling is career highs in home runs, triples and doubles. On Sunday against the San Diego Padres, LeMahieu doubled twice, once to left field in the first inning, then to deep center off the wall in the eighth.
