DENVER -- Ian Desmond will return to the scene of the crime, so to speak, in an extended spring training game at Salt River Fields on Friday, where he'll take his first live at-bats since fracturing his left hand there nearly eight weeks ago.
Desmond began taking cuts off a tee last Friday and has progressed to live batting practice at Coors Field this week. With the Rockies playing a three-game series in Arizona, the proximity will allow Desmond to travel with the team and see hand specialist Dr. Donald Sheridan, who performed Desmond's surgery.
"He's going to get volume, which is what he wants," manager Bud Black said.
