Welcome to first place, Day 2. With their win over the Dodgers late Monday night, the Rockies moved into sole possession of first place in the National League West for the first time since June 20, 2017. Last night’s loss didn’t change anything.
It was only a season ago Colorado was in this position, but despite how recently the Rockies have been here, it’s a reminder how quickly things can change during the course of a 162-game MLB season. In 2017, the Rockies spent 56 days alone in first place; by the time they were entering their wild-card playoff game against Arizona, they were 17 games behind the eventual NL champion Dodgers.
