Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, one of the best postseason hitters in baseball history, was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame Tuesday, but voters shut the door on Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens.
Ortiz, a 10-time all-star and three-time World Series champion, was the only player elected. He made it in his first year on the ballot. The Baseball Writers’ Association of America gave “Big Papi” 77.9% of the vote, clearing the 75% bar by 11 votes.
Rockies first baseman Todd Helton, on his fourth year on the ballot, received 52% of the vote, climbing from 44.
