Daniel Descalso, Rockies utility infielder, out with small break in hand

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Rockies utility infielder Daniel Descalso has a small broken bone in his left hand and will miss a few weeks while the injury heals, manager Walt Weiss said Tuesday.

Also, left-handed pitching prospect Tyler Anderson, who's been dealing with a strained right oblique, will miss "several weeks."

Descalso was hit in the hand by a pitch from Cleveland's Tom Gorzelanny in a Cactus League game last Friday. Initial X-rays showed no broken bones, but the swelling in Descalso's hand was extensive and he underwent an MRI on Monday. The test showed that Descalso had an avulsion fracture on the back of his left hand.
