CHICAGO — When David Bote’s opportunity to become a long-term Cub came during spring training, it didn’t take much convincing on either side to hammer out a five-year, $15 million extension.
In Bote, a Longmont native and former Faith Christian star, Chicago gets a bargain on a high-ceiling player who had less than a year of service time when the ink dried on his contract.
And Bote, the 26-year-old who spent six-plus seasons in the minors before cracking the bigs last April, gets exactly what he always dreamt of: A secure baseball future for him and his growing family.
