Rain started falling in the top of the fifth inning just about the time Colorado Rockies starter Kyle Freeland struck out opposing pitcher Joe Musgrove to end the frame. Fans took cover as big drops began to come down on the crowd.
Freeland and Musgrove are engaged in a pitching battle, with neither showing any signs of giving in to the other team. Freeland has allowed just two hits in five innings of work (including a double to Musgrove) while Pittsburgh’s right-hander was perfect through the first four frames. However, Nolan Arenado led off the fifth inning with a sharp single to right field, putting an end to any kind of perfect game or no-hitter watch.
