Rockies shortstop Trevor Story was removed from Friday’s game in the eighth inning after he was on the receiving end of a bad hop on a groundball off the bat of Padres outfielder Hunter Renfroe.
With the Rockies having a 11-4 lead at the time, Carlos Estevez delivered the first pitch of the inning, a 97 MPH fastball to Renfroe. Story ranged to his right to field the ball, which had an exit velocity of 96.1 MPH off Renfroe’s bat.
However, as Story was about ready to field it, the groundball hit the heel of his glove and bounced up and hit him between his left eye and his forehead, which knocked him to the ground.
