The Rockies picked up some much-needed relief depth, but there's now additional concern regarding the health of their Opening Day first baseman.
The Colorado Rockies claimed right-handed pitcher Gonzalez Germen off of waivers, the team announced on Tuesday. To create room for Germen, the club transferred first baseman Justin Morneau to the 60-day disabled list.
Germen was designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs on July 4 after allowing five runs in six innings of relief at the major league level. Germen struck out eight batters and walked five during his limited MLB action.
