Rockies right-hander Christian Bergman will remain with Triple-A Albuquerque, where his minor-league rehab has turned into a potential change.
Bergman was Colorado’s go-to long reliever before he suffered an oblique strain May 19. In his rehab, the Rockies gave Bergman a starting role, to build his arm back to the point where he can pitch multiple innings of relief. But now, with Jordan Lyles in the Rockies long-relief role, the Rockies may keep Bergman as a starter.
“We can never have too much starting depth,” Colorado manager Walt Weiss said.
Bergman was planning for two Triple-A starts before returning to the Rockies.
