ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A district attorney is dropping rape charges against two former Asheville Tourists minor league baseball players.
Buncombe County District Attorney Todd Williams said Monday he was dropping charges against pitchers Michael Ryan Mason and Jesse Maxson Meaux.
Both players were arrested on Aug. 1 2013 and charged with two counts each of first-degree rape and first-degree sex offense.
Williams said he could not elaborate on his reasons for dropping charges, which had been filed by the previous district attorney for the county.
A woman told police she had been in the players' apartment July 27, 2013.
