SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — This spring training presents a terrific opportunity for Rockies right-hander Carlos Estevez. Make the most of it, and he’ll be in line to pitch some important innings during the regular season. Struggle, and Estevez could face more schooling at Triple-A Albuquerque.
A confident Estevez is betting he’ll be a full-time big-leaguer, possibly working as a stand-in for set-up man Bryan Shaw.
“I feel good, really good,” the 25-year-old said. “All offseason, I worked on the things I discovered at the end of last season, and now I’m trying to keep it going.”
Standing 6-foot-6, weighing 261 pounds and capable of throwing a 100 mph fastball, Estevez is an intimidating presence on the mound — at least when he’s facing Triple-A hitters who can’t handle his raw power.
