The Rockies are optioning lefty-hitting first baseman Ben Paulsen to Albuquerque and selecting the contract of Cardullo, a right-handed hitter who has compiled a .308 batting average, 17 home runs and 72 RBIs in 115 games with Albuquerque. Cardullo has played mostly right field, but he also has three games at first base and one in left. He also has extensive pro experience at third base and shortstop.
Cardullo gives the Rockies a sorely needed right-handed bat. They've lost two righty-hitting regulars to injury -- shortstop Trevor Story (left thumb surgery) and first baseman Mark Reynolds (right hand surgery).
