The Rockies recalled Jose Mujica to serve as a possible bullpen long-arm for the series finale Wednesday against the Giants, with the intention of quickly sending Mujica back to Triple-A.
But even though Mujica’s stay in LoDo will be short, manager Bud Black expects him to keep developing into a future rotational piece. Hence the promotion, even if for a quick “cup of coffee” as a reliever.
“He has the stuff, the ability and the stamina to be a starter in the big leagues,” Black said. “That’s how we’re going to pitch him in the minors. There’s still some development left there with Jose, but we feel the upside is there to make the big-league starting rotation.
