Bud Black, a longtime baseball man with a rich pitching background, experience managing in the National League West and first-hand knowledge of the travails of playing at Coors Field, was officially named the Rockies manager Monday morning at a news conference.
Black, 59, becomes the seventh manager in franchise history.
He takes over for Walt Weiss, who stepped down a day after the 2016 season ended when his contract expired. The Rockies finished 75-87 this season, their best record since 2010. But Black faces a tough task in trying to turn the Rockies into a playoff contender.
