Los Angeles — Hard-throwing reliever Miguel Castro figures in the Rockies’ long-term future, he just doesn’t quite fit into their immediate plans.
As such, the 21-year-old right-hander was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque before Monday night’s game against the Dodgers to make room on the 25-man roster for left-hander Boone Logan, who was reinstated from the disabled list. It wasn’t an easy decision, but Castro has minor-league options, while fellow right-handers Justin Miller and Gonzalez Germen do not.
“Miguel was one of the few guys we were able to send down, without losing them,” manager Walt Weiss said.
