SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Todd Helton stood behind the batting cage late Monday morning, watching minor leaguers take their cuts.
Carlos Gonzalez was at Salt River Fields, too. CarGo held court as only CarGo can.
And while the current big-leaguers aren’t camp because of the ongoing labor battle, the surprise visit of two Rockies icons spiced things up. More than that, the presence of Helton and Gonzalez illustrates general manager Bill Schmidt’s desire to link the Rockies’ past to the present.
“We had talked about it during the offseason, trying to get some guys back and involved with the team,” Schmidt said.
