CHICAGO — Forty-nine years? You call that a wait?
The Chicago Blackhawks — plus their fans — hadn’t won an NHL championship since 1961 when they broke through to claim the Stanley Cup in 2010. At their morning skate Thursday at the United Center, the current Blackhawks talked about watching another Chicago team, the Cubs, end the 108-year dry spell with a Game 7 win in the World Series in Cleveland Wednesday night.
“It was hard to watch,” said Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews. “Baseball, there’s so much intensity and suspense between every play. It just takes too long… It was pretty cool, pretty emotional to watch those guys celebrate.
