PHOENIX — In a move that has been expected for months, the Rockies on Saturday announced that Bill Schmidt is their new, permanent general manager.
The move continues a Rockies tradition of promoting important front-office personnel from within.
Schmidt, 61, becomes the fourth general manager in franchise history. He has served as the interim general manager since May 3, replacing Jeff Bridich, who resigned April 26. Schmidt had previously led the Rockies’ scouting department since 1999.
Additionally, the Rockies also announced the promotion of Danny Montgomery to vice president and assistant general manager of scouting and have promoted Zack Rosenthal to vice president and assistant general manager of baseball operations and assistant general counsel.
