SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Rockies’ version of March Madness takes place on a concrete patio near the loading dock at the team’s training complex at Salt River Fields.
It’s where manager Bud Black — ever cognizant of team building — recently had a basketball hoop installed. It’s where third baseman Nolan Arenado (who shoots left-handed), shortstop Trevor Story, outfielder Charlie Blackmon and reliever Chris Rusin pop shots.
“Chuck has a pretty good stroke,” Story said. “I gotta say I was a little bit skeptical he would be fluid enough, but he sure is. (David) Dahl has a pretty good shot, and so does Nolan, even though he shoots left-handed.
