Bee swarm chases manager Ned Yost during Royals-Rockies spring game

SURPRISE, Ariz. — Lowell Hutchison, a retired beekeeper from St. Joe, Mo., sprung into action Tuesday at Surprise Stadium. A swarm of bees chased Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost from his seat and sent fans fleeing.

So Hutchison, on vacation to watch the World Series champion Royals take on the Rockies in a Cactus League spring training game, volunteered for duty.

Just before first pitch, the bee swarm perched in the safety netting behind home plate, then circled and surged toward the Royals dugout. Yost took cover in the dugout. Fans in the first three rows ran for the concourse.
