The “Queen of Soul” moves Ian Desmond.
That’s not to say that the late, great Aretha Franklin is responsible for Desmond’s recent on-field heroics for the Rockies. But using Franklin’s hit “Rock Steady” as a walk-up song sure can’t hurt.
“I just like the song, and she was an unbelievable entertainer and artist. It sounded good to me,” Desmond explained Thursday afternoon after he blasted a two-run, walk-off home run to beat the San Diego Padres, 4-3, in one of the Rockies’ biggest wins of the season.
Franklin died on Aug. 16 in Detroit at the age of 76.
