SAN FRANCISCO — Nolan Arenado‘s first home run of the season was an elixir for the Rockies.
The third baseman’s three-run, fifth-inning launch off Giants left-hander Derek Holland on Sunday afternoon was a huge moment in Colorado’s 4-0 victory. It not only allowed the Rockies to “exhale,” as manager Bud Black said, it supplied Rockies starter German Marquez with a comfortable cushion as Marquez took a no-hitter into the eighth inning.
“I felt like I had some really good at-bats today — good quality,” said Arenado, who hit his first home run after 61 at-bats, the longest drought to start a season in his career.
