The situation screamed for the Rockies to do something to fix their wobbly rotation. And yet, 18 days before pitchers and catchers report to spring training, starting pitching remains their most apparent weakness.
Their equally beleaguered bullpen? That's received plenty of love and attention this winter. Thursday, the Rockies traded slugger Corey Dickerson to Tampa Bay for accomplished left-handed reliever Jake McGee. Colorado had already signed two former closers to two-year contracts, guaranteeing Jason Motte $10 million and Chad Qualls $6 million.
That's a wise step, because the only years the Rockies made the playoffs — 1995, 2007, 2009 — a solid relief corps was an essential element to success.
