Veteran southpaw Mike Dunn played a critical role in Colorado holding its one-run lead in a 5-4 victory over the Reds on Friday, the sixth straight scoreless appearance for a reliever whose consistency has rivaled bullpen stalwarts Adam Ottavino and Wade Davis as of late.
Despite being sixth among Rockies relievers with just 13 u2153 total innings pitched, Dunn sports a 1.93 ERA in 4 u2154 innings of work in May, and manager Bud Black noted the crescendoing sharpness of his fastball-slider combination.
“The slider’s better, and there’s more consistent strikes there out of Mike,” Black said.
